Today, “Adrian Simcox Does NOT Have a Horse” is reviewed at the “Calling Caldecott” blog of The Horn Book. Every year, The Horn Book‘s bloggers put together a list of books they believe have a shot at winning the Caldecott, and each week, they pick two or three and lay out their case for why it should win. I’ve been anxiously waiting ever since that list was announced, and it’s finally my turn!
It’s no surprise that Corinna Luyken is an amazing artist. But someone worthy of the Caldecott must not just be a great illustrator. They must also demonstrate their skill at adding meaning to the text via the illustration. Corinna certainly does that, and this post does a beautiful job of explaining how. Once you read it, make sure to take a look around the blog at the other books discussed. There are so many amazing picture books this year!
